KL Rahul donated Rs 31 lakh of the 35 lakh required procedure

Indian vice-captain KL Rahul showed a heartwarming gesture when he came to the rescue of an eleven-year-old budding cricketer. KL Rahul donated Rs 31 lakh for the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) to treat a rare blood disorder of the child.

According to a report filed by news agency IANS, Varad's family was assisted by Rahul's team when the ace cricketer came to know about the budding cricketer. The report added that Rahul has donated INR 31 lakh of the total sum (INR 35 lakh) which was required for an urgent bone marrow transplant.

Varad is on road to recovery after Rahul came to the rescue of the 11-year-old. Varad's father Sachin Nalawade is an insurance agent while his mother Swapna Jha is a homemaker.

Varad's parents had launched a fundraising campaign on GiveIndia in order to raise Rs 35 lakh for their son's treatment. "When I came to know about Varad's condition, my team got in touch with GiveIndia so that we can help him in any way we could.

I am glad that the surgery was successful, and he is doing well. I hope Varad gets back on his feet at the earliest and goes on to achieve his dreams. I hope my contribution inspires more and more people to come forward and help those in need," Rahul was quoted as saying in a release.

On the work front, Rahul is rested for the T20I series between India and Sri Lanka. Rahul had sustained an upper left hamstring strain while fielding for India in the second One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies earlier this month. Rahul will also miss the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
