India vs West Indies: Rishabh Pant Named Vice-Captain Of T-20 Series

Series will begin from 16th Feb at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been named as the vice-captain of the upcoming T-20 series against West Indies. The 3-match series will begin from 16 February at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

KL Rahul's absence made Rishabh Pant the vice-captain of the team India. KL Rahul will miss the T-20I series due to a hamstring injury that he picked up during the ODI series. Rahul did not field in the last ODI due to his injury.

Rishabh Pant has been earmarked as one of the future leaders of the team. While the Delhi wicket-keeper hasn’t been part of the leadership group so far, his selection as the captain shows that the Chettan Sharma led selection panel is looking at him as the future captain of India.

Rishabh Pant has proved his mettle as captain, leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021 season. Pant was retained by Delhi capitals as the former finalists build a squad around the aggressive wicket-keeper in the mega auction.

In the press release, it was also announced that all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the series and Kuldeep Yadav has been named his replacement.

India after winning the ODI series under Rohit Sharma's captaincy 3-0 will be looking to extend their winning run in the upcoming series.

However, the West Indies will be looking to make a statement after the humiliation that they suffered in the ODIs. The visitors gave a solid performance in the last T20I series that they played against England which they won 3-2.
