Indian American Vijaya Gadde spearheaded suspension of Donald Trump's twitter account

Story of Vijaya Gadde

As the questionable eyes of the world drowned in disgrace turned to Washington after the violent storming of US Capitol, social media platforms took charge of regulating the situation by checking the flow of misinformation and blocking the Instagram, Facebook, Google, Twitter etc accounts of US President Donald Trump. The protests were unethical and  politically and motivated by spreading the flow of misleading information about election rigging and fraudulent voting by Trump who in a way instigated social and communal disharmony. A 45-year old Indian immigrant and twitter's top lawyer Vijaya Gadde spearheaded the decision of blocking US President's Donald Trump's twitter accounts permanently.

On Friday, tech giant Twitter deactivated Trump's account for an indefinite time after they seem to have fueled the rioters and protestors to attack the divine symbol of nationhood US Capitol leading to a shameful vision that the world witnessed.

Ms Gadde is the company's Legal, Policy, Safety and Trust issues head who took to her twitter handle saying, "The account of @realDonaldTrump has been suspended permanently to prevent the outbreak of further violence. We've also forwarded our policy enforcement analysis- you can read more about our decision here (Providing the link to guidelines of the platform)." Ms Gadde was born in India, moved to US at age of 3 and brought up in Texas where her father worked as a chemical engineer on oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. She completed her high school education in New Jersey.

A BS graduate in Labor and Industrial relations from Cornell University and JD degree holder in New York University Law School, Gadde served a decade in law firm working with tech startups before joining twitter in 2011. Gadde has undertaken several steps that have improvised twitter over several years and formulated policies that have developed the reach of the platform. Twitter being a globally active and accessible platform has increased Gadde's visibility. In October 2020 Politico highlighted her as "the most powerful social media executive you've never heard of." Currently, 350 people are working under her leadership. Fortune was in the Oval Office when Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey met Trump and even joined him in meeting with Narendra Modi in November 2018. She even riveted Dorsey to not sell twitter adverts during US Presidential elections 2020.

Gadde made attempts to safeguard privacy and oppose censorship of Twitter internationally by filing a lawsuit against the 2014 Turkish ban on Twitter. She is an embodiment of courage and determination fighting against unjust and biased flow of information on social media. In recent years she has captivated a lot of attention in many US Publications. She has been listed in Instyle magazine's "top Badass 50 in 2020: Meet women who are changing the world." She has been working for upliftment and empowerment of women. Upholding the idea, she became co-founder of Angels, an investment collective that funds startups and assures that women get equal compensation at successful companies.
