Indian Fisherman shot dead in Gujarat by Pak says: Source

Out of 7 members, 1 was found dead and 1 was severely injured after Pak attacked Indian Boats.


New Delhi: India condemned the killing of an Indian fisherman by Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency or PMSA in an unprovoked firing, says the source.

Source added that the man on the Indian fishing boat was shot dead by Pakistan's forces on Saturday after they fired at the boat.

Also, one of the fishermen is severely injured and taken to the hospital in Gujarat's Okha.

Superintendent of Police Sunil Joshi said, "A fisherman from Maharashtra, who was on a fishing boat 'Jalpari' was shot dead after the PMSA personnel began to fire on him and other fishermen on Saturday evening."

He also added that there were seven men on the boat. The deceased was named Sridhar Ramesh Chamre, 32, later was brought to the Okha Port on Sunday. After that, an FIR  was lodged under Navi Mumbai Police against the incident.

The residents and the locals of village Vadrai in Maharashtra's Palghar district (Residence of the deceased) were mourning after hearing this unmerciful incident.

According to Jayantibhai Rathod, the owner of the fishing boat said, "Mr Chamre was in the cabin of the boat when he was hit by bullets"

Also, he briefed the reporters about the exact incident when he saw Mr Chamre dead. He said, "Three bullets hit him on the chest, following which he died. The captain of the boat was also injured in the indiscriminate firing by the Pakistani personnel."

Over the years, incidents of Pakistan firing at Indian fishing boats and detaining Indian fishermen have been reported from time to time.
