The Hockey legend, twice Olympic gold medalist Keshav Datt passed away today in the morning at his residence in Santoshpur, Kolkata. He was 95, his death took place due to age-related ailments. Mrs. Dolly Bairagi confirmed the news of his death. Mr.Datt wasn’t keeping well for a few days. He is survived by his two sons and a daughter.Hearing the sad news Mamata Banerjee also tweeted,” The World has lost its hockey legend today, Keshav Datt was a double Olympic gold medalist. A champion, condolences to his family and friends “.In 1925 Keshav Datt was born up in Lahore later, did his education and sports at the Government College in the western Punjab city Datt came into the limelight while representing Punjab in the National Championship in undivided India after the Partition He moved to Bombay then to Calcutta in 1950. In the National Championships, he respected Bombay and Bengal.IN 1948 he won a gold medal when was in London, he also became vice-captain of the Indian team in Helsinki. He also received the Mohun Bagan Ratna award in 2019, Datt’s first port of call Was Calcutta Port Commissioners. Mr.Datt also won Calcutta League six times and the Beighton Cup thrice at Mohun Bagan. He was also known as a half-backs player In Indian Hockey.
