Jofra Archer ruled out of competitive action due to an elbow injury

Archer will miss the West Indies tour

England pacer Jofra Archer will be out of competitive cricket until next summer after he underwent a second surgery to treat his injured right elbow. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Wednesday.

Jofra Archer missed India’s tour of England, the IPL and the T-20 World Cup due to his elbow injury. He is also missing out on the Ashes Series. The pacer has not played at the highest level for nine months. He’s been ruled out of a Test series against the West Indies in March.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that fast bowler Jofra Archer underwent a second operation on his injured right elbow on Saturday 11 December in London.

“The procedure added the long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow.”

“A return to cricket will be determined in time, but Jofra will not be available for any England’s remaining winter series.”

Archer, who has been a consistent performer for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, was not retained by the former champions. It remains to be seen if there will be takers for the star pacer in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction, considering a lengthy stint on the side-line due to his injury.

Archer had an operation in May 2021, after pulling out of IPL to remove a bone fragment from his elbow.

In July, he returned to play but started feeling pain in the same area bowling for Sussex in an English county championship match.

Archer's absence is felt by England as they have lost both the matches in the Ashes Test Series. England is down by 2-0 in the series.
