Kerala Opposition Leader VD Satheesan Launches Anti-Dowry Help Desk

The death of Vismaya, an Ayurveda medical student who faced dowry harassment, shocked the whole nation, resulting in outrage against the menace in the state.


Looking at the growing  numbers of  dowry harassment in the state of  Kerala, VD Satheesan on Friday launched an ''anti-dowry help desk'' in his work place to help  women who are facing  problems. With this network of 87 lawyers, attached to various courts in the state, the needy will be provided help by the  legal support at the desk.

In the Inauguration, State Congress veteran and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and playback singer Aparna Rajeev joined. The Opposition Leader desires to open similar help desks in the institutions of the state.

Recently in the southern state, several cases have arisen due to the practice of dowry where murders and suicides have also been reported in the state.Seeing the situation related to dowry, the Congress leader said after Marriage the dowry should no longer take place in Kerala.  Both  Boys and girls should decide not to take or give dowry.

Divorce is better than suicide in the name of dowry, also society should have self-assured to fight if they face any social issue. The help desk was launched as part of the second phase of the "With Our Daughter" campaign organized by Satheesan against the dowry menace.
