The 21st match of IPL 2020 was a neck to neck tussle between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings which ended in the victory for KKR. Knight Riders finally made it to the top 3 teams, instigating excitement and delight among fans. CSK even after a splendid win in the last match, laid down the expectations of fans. They were defeated by 10 runs. This is among the hardest seasons for the yellow army.
Kolkata won the toss and opted to bat the field, establishing a moderate run chase of 168 runs losing every wicket. The winning appreciation can be certified on Rahul Tripathi's name after his undeterred 81 off 51 deliveries. His threatening delivery was packed with 8 fours and three sixes. His indomitable and bright performance made him player of the match.Super Kings was wrapped in 157 runs on loss of five wickets due to deadly bowling by Knight Riders. Except Pat Cummins, every bowler took a wicket. The crucial wickets of MS Dhoni (11) and Sam Curran (17) were uprooted early. Shane Watson's fifty went in vain due to unfortunate defeat. Dwayne Bravo (3/37) took the highest number of wickets for CSK. Karn Sharma (2/25), Shardul Thakur (2/28) and Sam Curran (2/26) beautifully finished it for KKR taking 2 wickets each. Even after such flawless deliveries they couldn't sense the win.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni firmly asserted that batsmen trivialized the efforts of bowlers. He said "I think we did well in general with the ball, but the batsmen let the bowlers down today. Rotation of strike was important, but I think there were hardly any boundaries in the final few overs, so we need to be innovative at the end when they are continuously hitting a back of a length. That's where we need to adapt better with the bat and I don't think we did that" after the match. Chennai's performance in this season has been a matter of disappointment among supporters.
Kolkata's Captain Dinesh Karthik appreciated the overall efforts of the team and specially mentioned Rahul Tripathi for his bang on performance. Amidst such uncertainties ruling this IPL, it will be interesting to witness tonight's big battle between Kings XI Punjab and Sun Risers Hyderabad.
