Lightning kills 68 in Rajasthan, UP, MP: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for kin. Around seven children including 18 people lost their lives in several parts of Rajasthan


On July 11, around 18 people including seven children in Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan died due to lightning. Whereas 68 people died across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh because of thunderstorm and resulting lightning.

According to the official statement, it said 11 people in Jaipur, mostly youths, were killed and eight others injured when lightning struck them on a hill near Amber fort. They also said "some of them were taking selfies on a watch over while others were on a hill. Those on the watch over fell when the lightning struck late evening.

Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan's Chief Minister has announced a compensation of rupees 5 lakh to each family member who lost his life due to a lightning strike. Meanwhile, Deputy CM Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot expressed their condolences on their deaths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the deaths caused by lightning across three states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. He also announced an ex gratia of Rupees 2 lakh to each from  Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the kin of those who lost their lives and he also approved Rs 50,000 as financial aid for those who are injured during the accident.
