Madhya Pradesh: 5 cases, 1 death reported due to Covid-19 'Delta Plus' variant

The new mutated variant, 'Delta Plus' has been declared a variant of concern by the Centre.


Five positive cases of Covid-19 'Delta Plus' variant have been reported so far in Madhya Pradesh including death of one, state Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said on Thursday. He said that four of five cases had been vaccinated against Covid-19 and are doing well while one person from Ujjain, who died, had not been inoculated. The new mutated variant, 'Delta Plus' has been declared a variant of concern by the Centre. So far, three people from Bhopal and two from Ujjain have been found infected with the variant in the state, the minister said. He added that soon a genome sequencing machine will be installed in Bhopal after which the state would not have to send samples to Delhi. The Delta or B.1.617.2 variant that was first identified in India which led to the deadly second wave, mutated and formed a new 'Delta Plus' variant.
