Maharashtra COVID-19 cases cross 5,000 after 75 days; new curbs in Mumbai

BMC has issued new guidelines amid surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra.


The  civic authorities in Mumbai have issued new updated guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic as the cases have crossed the 5,000 mark on Thursday after a gap of 75 days. According to the order of Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, people who will disregard the rules of public gatherings, weddings and home isolation shall be prosecuted.

It also said that 300 marshals will be appointed to keep a check on the travellers and will especially nab the ones who are to be found without the mask. Mumbai has reported 736 cases. Fresh restrictions have been announced in Yavatmal and Amravati districts of Maharashtra. Amravati has been put under lockdown over the weekend. The order said that places with more than five COVID-19 positive cases will be sealed. 

To keep a check on the Brazil variant, travellers coming from Brazil will be quarantined in institutions. Maharashtra had reported 5,229 cases on December 4 after which the number of cases started dropping. On Thursday, it reported 5,427 new cases of COVID-19.
