Maharashtra extends lockdown till June 1 to curb deadly Covid-19

New restrictions include a mandatory negative RT-PCR test report for those entering the state through any mode of transportation.


In order to curb the deadly Covid-19, the Maharashtra government on Thursday extended the ongoing lockdown in the state till 7 am on June 1. On Wednesday, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte issued an order according to which, new restrictions also include a mandatory negative RT-PCR test report for those entering the state through any mode of transportation and curbs on those arriving from places of "sensitive origins."

The state government has asked the local disaster management authority (DMA) to ensure all Covid protocols are followed at rural markets and has been authorized to shut down or impose more restrictions on shops that do not comply. As per the order, the personnel engaged in Airport and Port services and needed for movement of cargo related to medicines or equipment needed for Covid management will be allowed to travel in local, mono and metro services.

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 46,781 new cases in the last 24 hours, while 816 lost their lives to the infection, according to the state health bulletin, reported Hindustan Times. In the state, the active cases were reported 546,000 and the case tally of the state was recorded 5,226,710 while the death toll was 78,007, according to the bulletin.
