Major Landslide In Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh

Many people are feared buried in debris after a landslide occurred in Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.


A major landslide occurred in Kinnaur at around 12.45 pm near the Reckong Peo-Shimla Highway on Wednesday. Many vehicles like buses and cars are believed to have been buried in debris. According to sources, the bus was travelling to Shimla with 40 visitors. Teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been sent to the area to rescue them. Chief Minister of HP Jairam Thakur stated that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been put on alert.

Mr Thakur stated that he has directed the police and the local administration to carry out rescue operations. He said," We have received information that one bus and a car could have been hit. We are waiting for detailed information."

Incessant rain has caused many landslides in several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the couple of weeks. An incident also occurred in Sirmaur after 2 weeks of heavy rain. Heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides have destroyed roads, bridges causing difficulties for commuters.
