Manipur to appoint Mirabai Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police

The government has also decided to establish a world-class weightlifting academy in the state soon.


Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who recently won India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020 now will be appointed as the Additional Superintendent of Police in the state police department. The announcement was made by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday.

In addition, a money reward of Rs 1 crore would be given to her by the state government. The government has also decided to establish a world-class weightlifting academy in the state soon. Likmabam Sushila Devi, an Indian Judoka from Manipur would be also appointed as sub-inspector.

The Advisory Committee of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has also mentioned in providing cash awards for all the Indian contingent Rs 1 lakh. Gold medal athletes will be given Rs. 75 lakh, Silver medal athletes will be given Rs.40 lakh, and Bronze medal winners will receive Rs.25 lakh. Besides, five athletes from Manipur are representing the Indian nation in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020.
