Massive Poonch search operation enters 10th day on Wednesday

Army has deployed special forces to track down militants responsible for twin deadly ambush in the forest area of Poonch.


Srinagar: A massive search operation lanched in Mendhar sector of Poonch district after militants killed nine army soldiers including two junior commissioned officer entered into tenth day on Wednesday.

Seven army soldiers including one junior commissioned officer were killed in Surankot sector of Poonch early this month.

Another foot patrol of Army was ambushed just after two days of Surankot attack at Mendhar sector of Poonch district.

According to intelligence sources a group of heavily armed militants comprising both Jaish and Lashkar mostly foreign and specially trained in mountain warfare are behind two deadly attacks.

The special forces including Para commandos are searching every corner of dense forest and destroying the natural caves and hideouts by explosives.

Advanced drones with the capability of carrying improvised explosive devices, IED's and high range surveillance are being used to track down militants.

Earlier today helicopter gunships too were seen hovering over the forest area where Army's special forces are busy in combing operation since last ten days.
The villagers of the area are being advised through public addressing system by army to stay at their homes.

According to defence sources so far there has been no contact with militants during search operation and neither any militant bodies have been recovered as reported by some national media houses.

The explosions and gunfire can be heard from a distance but these explosive are being used to destroy caves and natural hideouts and the gunfire sound is of Army's speculative firing.
