Around 24 people lost their lives due to flooding following heavy rain in the Chambal -Gwalior region as well as over thousands of people who were evacuated. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a few measures to help people who have been affected by floods during the past week. According to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, the families of those who died in the flood will be given financial assistance of rupees four lakh each. He also said 8,900 people who were trapped at various locations in flood-hit districts were rescued by the Air force, the Army, the State Disaster response force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), whereas 32,900 people were also shifted to safer places. Adding more he said, the regular ration will be given to beneficiaries and an additional 50 kg food grain will be given to the flood-hit families. He mentioned, "I have formed a task force, comprising 12 cabinet ministers and officials of all important departments.  I myself, and the team of ministers and officials will oversee the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction work. The MP Government also said that they will assist those who have lost their household items. The State Government is also managing financial assistance for the construction of houses destroyed in floods."
