Mumbai To Get Electric AC Double Decker Buses

Around 900 buses to run in the city


Mumbai will get its BEST, the iconic red double-decker buses in the city. The buses are going to be electric and it will soon procure 900 such buses for the city.



According to the statement given by the Tourism and Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray, has announced on Twitter 900 such electric buses will soon be procured by BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport). Thackeray in one of his tweets also said, “As we increase our BEST fleet, ultimately to 10,000 electric/clean alternate fuel buses, our aim is to have maximum double-decker buses, as this increases our capacity."



According to the statement given by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, I have been personally keen on reviving Mumbai’s iconic double-decker buses." This new initiative by the Government of Maharashtra could very well be the catalyst for more EVs to start plying the roads of Mumbai.He also thanked the Best chairman for accepting the government's suggestion. He said, "I thank BEST chairman @AshishChemburk1 Ji, GM Lokesh Chandra ji, and the committee of BEST for honoring our suggestion."



According to the statement given by the BEST official, it said,' the 4.5-fold jump in numbers happened on Tuesday. “These 900 buses will be inducted on wet lease for a period of 12 years. We expect the first batch of these buses to start coming in by this year-end."



The BEST undertaking provides public bus services in Mumbai and the neighbouring cities, including Thane, Mira-Bhayander, and Navi Mumbai. Around 25 lakh passengers travel daily in the BEST buses.
