MVA calls for bandh in Maharashtra today

Everything except the essential services will remain shut till 4pm today.

Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising of Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP has called for a statewide bandh today in protest to stand in solidarity with the farmers over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that took place on 3rd October where eight people of whom four farmers were allegedly killed by vehicles of BJP workers and later others were lynched by an angry mob. Later, on Saturday, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra was arrested in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

All the three ruling parties will actively participate in the bandh and have appealed to the citizens to join in. Several Trade Groups in Pune have also extended support for the same. The state government said everything will be closed from traders dealing in fruits, vegetables, flowers etc, to the transport except for the essential services and local trains.

Although the BJP has urged not to impose bandh on shops citing huge losses in their business during lockdown. The Mumbai Police has said strict patrolling will be ensured so no disruption takes place.
