Online vaccination registration and prior appointment not mandatory for 18+, says Centre

After facing several glitch and facing issues in opening the website  for Covid-19 vaccine registration, the Centre on Tuesday said that the online registration and prior appointment is not mandatory for 18+ for COVID19 vaccination.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that "Pre-registration for vaccination through online registration and prior booking appointment is not mandatory to avail for vaccination services." It also said that anyone can directly go to their nearest vaccination centre and can avail of "on-site registration " and provide vaccination in the same visit.

The Centre also said that these modes are specifically operationalized for rural areas and are functional. It said that as of June 13, over 16.45 crore(85%)  beneficiaries has used online mode for vaccine registration. Further, it also said that "The facilitators such as health workers or ASHAs workers, also mobilize beneficiaries in rural areas and those residing in urban slums, for on-site registration and vaccination directly at the nearest vaccination centers."

The Co-WIN system offers a completely flexible and inclusive framework for facilitating vaccination recording in rural areas, and especially in the remotest parts of the country, said the Ministry. Around 4,49,87,004 doses have been administered as the first dose across 37 states and UTs to the age group between 18 -44, and around 9 lakh vaccine doses have been given as the second dose.
