P V Sindhu, B Sai Praneeth crash out of Thailand Open

P V Sindhu lost to Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt in the first round of Thailand Open.


World Champion P V Sindhu lost to Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the first round of YONEX Thailand Open Super 1000 event on Tuesday. Although Sindhu won the first game, she lost the second and third to world no.18 Blichfeldt. World no.6 Sindhu scored 21-16, 24-26 13-21 in a 74 minute game.

The loss has ended India's chance to win in women's singles since the other participant, Saina Nehwal had to quit as she tested positive for COVID-19.

In men's singles, world no.13 B Sai Praneeth too lost to Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand who ranks 15 in the world rank tally. The score was 16-21, 10-21. However, in the mixed doubles, Indian pair Satwik and Ashwini won by a score of 21-11, 27-29, 21-16. They claimed their win over the Indonesian pair Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Widjaja. According to the COVID--19 protocols, no coaches or other personnel are allowed to attend the matches of Indian participants after HS Prannoy and Saina Nehwal tested positive for COVID-19.
