P.V. Sindhu beats Akane Yamaguchi to enter semi-final, will compete with Tai Tzu Ying today

PV Sindhu will compete against Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying, who ranks first according to BWF women's singles world ranking at 3:20 pm on Saturday.


Rio Olympics silver-medallist P V Sindhu triumphed over Akane Yamaguchi of Japan with a score of 21-13, 22-20 at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday. Ms Sindhu stormed into the semi-final of the women's singles badminton event and is now only one win away from ensuring second consecutive silver Olympic medal.

Ms Sindhu easily finished the first game in 23 minutes. However, Akane made a strong comeback in the second match and the game lasted 56 minutes. Ms Yamaguchi took the lead but in the end Ms Sindhu sealed the game. The reigning world champion Indian will compete against Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying, who ranks first according to BWF women's singles world ranking at 3:20 pm on Saturday.
