'Panchamrit'- A key for net-zero emission says: PM Modi during COP26

PM Modi has announced the 5 points of Panchamrit that will help the future from climatic changes

Glasgow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, where he talked regarding 'panchamrit' or five nectar elements to deal with the challenge of climate change. PM Modi also announced that the nation will shift to a carbon-neutral by 2070.

According to PM Modi, the concept of 'panchamrit' consists of the following points:

  1. India will reach its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
  2. India will meet 50 per cent of its energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
  3. India will reduce the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from now to 2030.
  4. By 2030, India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy to less than 45 per cent.
  5. By 2070, India will achieve the target of net-zero emissions.

As per the conference, India is the last of the world's major carbon polluters to declare a net-zero target. Also, the scientists and the experts say we must halve global emissions by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050, to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

Mr Modi also urged for a global push to adopt sustainable lifestyles.

The Indian Prime Minister has also joined hands with the British PM Boris Johnson to initiate Infrastructure for the Resilient Island States (IRIS) during the COP-26.

According to both the PMs, IRIS will be an essential part of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) that would focus on building capacity, having pilot projects especially in small island developing states that would also involve in some senses, setting up norms and standards for resilient infrastructure.
