Vaccination in the US for age group 5-to-11-year-olds will commence by November-Mid


Washington: The assigned medical panel of the US govt. approved the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in 5-to-11-year-olds. The youngsters can get their vaccination shots by November- mid.

A debate and presentation were held on Tuesday about the pros and cons of the vaccine for the kids. 17 members of the panel were agreed however one abstention was there in the final vote.

The Food and Drug Administration, which gathered the conference, is required to give its formal green light soon, making 28 million young Americans eligible for the vaccination by mid-November.

"It is pretty clear to me that the benefits do outweigh the risk when I hear about children who are being put in the ICU, who are having long term outcomes after their COVID, and children are dying," said Amanda Cohn.

According to Mr Amanda, there are many children at high risk of the stand to benefit and that the theoretical risk of myocarditis, the side-effect. There would seemingly be very low, given the lowered dose of 10 micrograms, compared to 30 micrograms in older ages.

However, several specialists partly caveated their votes by saying they would not favour broad vaccine orders in schools and the shot should remain a personal decision for families.

Previously, top FDA vaccine expert Peter Marks said younger children were "far from being spared the harm of Covid-19," adding that, in this group, there had been 1.9 million infections and 8,300 hospitalizations, approximately a third of which needed intensive care.

He also added the death toll increased up to 100.
