PM Modi launches ABDM, praises CoWIN platform amid UK's statement on "vaccine certification issues"

The UK earlier had not approved of any vaccine that is being administered in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and praised government's centralised digital service provider, CoWIN platform that maintains record of COVID-19 vaccination appointments and certificates declaring the system "massive."

The praise for the online platform came as the UK had recently issued a travel advisory stating that Indians will have to self-quarantine themselves for 10 days on arrival, even if they are completely vaccinated with two jabs.

PM Modi spoke at the launch of the medical welfare scheme in which every citizen will have a unique ID to which all their personal medical records will be linked and transported. The Prime Minister said that since January, 2021 over 86 crore vaccine doses have been administered to people with the help of CoWIN.

The UK earlier had not approved of any vaccine that is being administered in India.
