PM Narendra Modi reaches New York to address 76th UN General Assembly session

PM Modi will address the UNGA session on Saturday.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flew from Washington to New York after his bilateral meeting with the US President Joe Biden, to address the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which was held virtually last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bilateral meeting was held at the Oval office of the White House. 

PM Modi on Friday had attended the first in-person meeting with other Quad leaders, Australian Prime MInister Scott Morrison, Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and the US President Joe Biden, who had hosted the Quad Summit.

"Landed in New York City. Will be addressing the UNGA at 6:30 PM (IST) on the 25th," the prime minister tweeted. PM Modi will address the General Debate of the UNGA on Saturday. The theme of the debate is 'Building Resilience through hope to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalise the United Nations.''

In the General Assembly, around 109 heads of the state and government will address the General Debate in person while nearly 60 others will participate by delivering speeches through pre-recorded video statements.
