According to sportskeeda, the PSG sporting director revealed some interesting facts about Lionel Messi’s transfer to the French Club. He revealed that PSG was able to close the deal within three days.
It was shocking news for the football fans when they came to know that the 34-year-old was leaving Barcelona as they weren’t able to finance a contract extension for him.
After the news broke out fans were speculating about his new destination. Manchester City and PSG were the clubs that were ready to sign the Argentinean.
In the end, it was PSG who was successful in signing Messi.
“We closed the Messi deal in three days. We thought he was going to stay in Barcelona. If you look at the statistics, his first months in Paris are spectacular. He has played the same way for twenty years. He's a genius,” Leonardo said in an interview.
Lionel Messi has played 778 games for FC Barcelona in all competitions, netting 672 goals and delivering 266 assists. He scored his first goal against Espanyol on 16th October 2004.
Messing began crying at the farewell ceremony and said, “This is very hard for me after so many years, after being here my entire life. I wasn’t prepared.”
Messi has scored six goals and has four assists for PSG so far. He is yet to find his form as he has been struggling in the French League.
