Ratan Tata reacts to Bharat Ratna campaign on Twitter

Ratan Tata requested the netizens to discontinue the #BharatRatnaForRatanTata campaign.


Motivational speaker Dr. Vivek Bhindra had started a #BharatRatnaForRatanTata campaign on Friday on Twitter asking to confer country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna to the octogenarian, following which netizens supported the campaign and urged the government to bestow the honour on him.

Ratan Tata who is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group on Saturday said that he appreciated the sentiments of people but requested the Twitteratis to discontinue the campaign. "While I appreciate the sentiments expressed by a section of the social media in terms of an award, I would humbly like to request that such campaigns be discontinued. Instead, I consider myself fortunate to be an Indian and to try and contribute to India's growth and prosperity," Mr Tata tweeted.

The tweet has been appreciated by his fans. One of his fans tweeted that it is a blessing that "we are living in the time of Ratan Tata" while another expressed that he was humbled by Mr Tata's gesture. Mr Tata is known for his efforts for social causes. He is already the recipient of two of the highest civilian awards of the country, Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
