Ravi Shastri: An attempt was made to ensure I don’t get the job as Indian head coach

Ravi Shastri ended his tenure as India’s coach after the T-20 World Cup

Ex India head coach Ravi Shastri in an interview has revealed that there were people in 2017 that were against him becoming the Indian Cricket team head coach.

“Yes, they didn’t want to give me Bharat Arun either as the bowling coach. And looking at how things pan out the very guy didn’t want as the bowling coach went on to become the first finest this country has ever had.”

Ravi Shastri further added, “I’m not pointing any fingers at people in general. Specific people. I must say an attempt was made to ensure I don’t get the job. But such is life.”

In the same interview, Ravi Shastri was asked “When did you make up your mind to quit”? To which he replied that he made up his mind to move on from the job during the India tour of England 2021, he also went on explaining.

He said, “Later, sometime after we left for England this year, I had made up my mind to move on. What precipitated were a couple of reasons. First I was pushing 60 and there were these Supreme Court rules and all. Second I knew the quarantine and the bio bubbles won’t go anywhere for another 2 years. Cricket will be played in isolation and that’s what we’re seeing right now too. So I said enough. For how long will this carry on?”

Ravi Shastri took the charge of the Indian cricket team from Anil Kumble, who gave up his position after a reposted spat with Virat Kohli.

Ravi Shastri parted ways with the Indian cricket team after the conclusion of the T-20 World Cup 2021. Soon after his departure Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
