Real Madrid Luka Modric and Marcelo Tested Positive for Covid-19

Real Madrid stars will miss Sunday’s La Liga match

Real Madrid players Luka Modric and Marcelo have tested positive for Covid-19 the club said in a statement. Both the player will miss the league match on Sunday.

European football is being affected by the rise in Covid-19 cases. Valencia confirmed four cases of the virus on Monday, including their head coach and two players.

Meanwhile, in England 42 Premier League players and staff tested positive in the last week.

The outbreak led UEFA to postpone their Europa Conference match against the French side Rennes last week.

Manchester United’s Premier League match against Brentford FC was also postponed for the same reason.

Real Madrid did not say if the two were suffering from any symptoms, but that they have been moved in Quarantine in line with Spain’s health protocol.

Modric was last seen in Real’s 2-0 derby win against Atletico at Santiago Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Marcelo was last seen in the group stages of the Champions League. Earlier, back in May, he was left off the squad list due to an argument with manager Zinedine Zidane.

According to Argentine Outlet Ole, Marcelo’s contract with Madrid runs until 30 June 2022. He will leave Real Madrid and is set to return to Fluminense Luka Modric is the only player who ended Messi and Ronaldo’s duopoly to win the best male footballer of the year in 2018, but in 2021 he did not receive any vote for this year’s award ceremony. He tied with Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta at the 29th spot.

Real Madrid is currently leading the race of La Liga as they are at the top of the table with 42 points.
