"Realised my unfinished dream after 37 years," says PT Usha on Neeraj Chopra's historic Olympic gold

Neeraj Chopra on Saturday became the first Indian athlete to bag an Olympic gold in track and field events in men’s javelin throw.

Former Indian athlete PT Usha on Saturday praised javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's historic win of clinching gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Referring to Mr Chopra as her son, Ms Usha tweeted on her Twitter handle that he had helped realise her "unfinished dream after 37 years." Mr Chopra on Saturday became the first Indian athlete to bag an Olympic gold in track and field events in men’s javelin throw. Neeraj became the second individual of India to win a gold at the Olympics after shooter Abhinav Bindra and this is the country's first medal in track and field disciplines after 121 years.

PT Usha's tweet read," Realised my unfinished dream today after 37 years. Thank you my son.” Mr Chopra grabbed the gold with 87.58m throw in the finals and achieved the feat that even late Milkha Singh and P T Usha could not do in 1960 and 1984 editions. Both athletes gave their best but came fourth in their respective Olympic Games. India won seven medals- one gold, two silver and four bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, surpassing the maximum number of medals, that is, six in the 2012 London Games.
