Repair work on Sarita Vihar flyover rescheduled on Monday

Non-objection certificate to the Public Work Department....

New Delhi: The repair work on the Sarita Vihar flyover rescheduled on Monday. Roads are in need of repair. According to the traffic police they have given the non-objection certificate to the Public Works Department to start the work from Wednesday, however this had to postpone for few days.

On Wednesday, the area where the flyover closure is expected to create traffic chaos, work was under way to make the U-turn on GD Birla Marg big enough for commercial vehicles. Traffic on Mathura Road proceeding to Badarpur and Faridabad will be diverted towards the slip road beneath the flyover to merge with GD Birla Marg, which already bears the traffic load coming from the Okhla Estate Marg, the inner lanes from Jasola and Shaheen Bagh and those going to Noida.

As per the officials at the U-turn the widening work would take a day or two to be completed. During the construction of the underpass, the U-turn, which was created for vehicles going to Sarita Vihar after the earlier access was demolished, closed on Wednesday.

A traffic officer there said, "The U-turn widening is to ensure that heavy vehicles can turn easily without slowing down vehicular movement. PWD also needs to recarpet the road at spots with potholes and uneven surface."

The whole area is prone to traffic knots. On Mathura Road in front of Apollo Indraprastha Hospitals, on Wednesday, as is usual on all other days too, autorickshaws and cars were parked on the side, hampering passage. At this point, motorists on the Jasola road can be seen driving on the wrong side to avoid the U-turn there. Traffic officers said they would post personnel there to check wrong-side driving.
