Rickshaw puller receives IT notice of Rs 3 crore

Pratap Singh submits a complaint claiming a fraud, officials inform that someone impersonated and obtained a GST on his name

On Sunday, a rickshaw puller Pratap Singh approached the police in Uttar Pradesh. He submitted a complaint at the Highway police station claiming a fraud after being served a notice from Income Tax (IT) department. In the complaint he said he has been asked for a pay over of Rs 3 Crore.

Pratap Singh is a resident of Amar Colony in the Bakalpur area in Mathura. He uploaded a video clip on the social media in which he narrated the events in sequence. He explained how he applied for a Pan card on March 15 at the Jan Suvidha Kendra in Bakalpur, owned by Tej Prakash Upadhyay. He submitted all the essentials as the bank asked.

Thereafter, he got a colored photocopy of the PAN card from one Sanjai Singh (mobile no. 9897762706) of Bakalpur. But since he is illiterate, he could not differentiate between an original PAN card and a colored photocopy of the same. He said he had to run from pillar to post for about three months to get his PAN card. On October 19, he got a call from the IT officials and was served a notice to pay Rs 3,47,54,896.

The officials informed him that someone has impersonated and obtained a GST number on his name to run a business and a turnover of the trader for 2018-2019 was Rs 43,44,36,201. Anuj Kumar, Station House Office (SHO) said although no case was registered on the basis Singh’s complaint, the police will be looking into the matter.
