Rishabh Pant becomes Captain of Delhi Capitals in IPL

In the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals will be captained by Team India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Regular captain Shreyas Iyer was injured during the series between India and England and it was then decided that he would not be able to make it to the IPL this season. In such a situation, speculations were being made about who would be given the command of the team between Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Steve Smith and Rishabh.

The Delhi franchise announced on Tuesday evening that their captain this season would be Rishabh Pant. The 23-year-old Pant will make an entry to the IPL for the first time as captain. He will be the 12th captain to captain Delhi in this tournament. He captained Delhi in domestic cricket. He was the Delhi captain in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2017. Pant has been in excellent form since the beginning of this year He was excellent in India's 3-1 victory in the Test series against England where he scored 270 runs in six innings. He also played excellent innings in the T20 series against England.

Kiran Kumar Gandhi, chairman and co-owner of Delhi Capitals, said, 'Our team reached new heights under the captaincy of Shreyas, so they will miss a lot. In his absence, the franchise has jointly selected Rishabh to captain the team this year. It will mark 23-year-old Pant's debut as IPL captain.
