Roger Federer withdraws from Tokyo Olympics citing knee injury

Roger Federer had gone through two knee surgeries last year.

Roger Federer has withdrawn from the upcoming Tokyo Olympics citing a setback in the recovery from a knee injury. The 20-times Grand Slam champion tweeted that during the grass court season, he unfortunately experienced a setback with his knee, and has accepted that he must withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Swiss tennis player had gone through two knee surgeries last year. It took him more than a year to recover from the surgeries, yet he had to withdraw from the French Open due to the same reason, even though he had won the third round match. Mr Federer, recently, lost the quarter-final match to Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon. Roger wrote on his Twitter account that he was greatly disappointed as he would not be able to represent Switzerland this time and wished the entire Swiss team good luck. Other big players who have withdrawn from the Games are Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Dominic Thiem, Simona Halep, Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios and Bianca Andreescu.
