Rohit Sharma ruled out of the South Africa Test series due to an injury

The 3- Match Test series will begin on December 26

India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Monday was ruled out of the entire three-match Test series against South Africa as his old left hamstring injury resurfaced during the net session in Mumbai.

The Hitman will be replaced by India A captain Priyank Panchal. Priyank Panchal has played over 100 First-class matches in which he has scored more than 7000 runs with an average of 45.5.

During a press release, BCCI, “Team India vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad.”

The 34-year-old also sustained a hit on his hand at the Mumbai nets while taking throwdowns from Raghavendra.

Though Rohit Sharma suffered an injury on his hand he even batted after that. But thereafter, it seemed his old hamstring injury problem resurfaced once again.

“They are trying to sort it out. Hamstring injury takes four weeks,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.

The first of the three tests will be played on 26 December. Centurion, SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium will host the first test match. Wanderers in Johannesburg and Newlands in Cape Town will host the other two tests.

The team will undergo three- day quarantine in Mumbai before flying to Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday by a chartered flight.

The batting maestro Virat Kohli will lead the test, but he will not play the ODI series to celebrate his daughter Vamika’s first birthday.

According to the report in the Times of India, he has informed the BCCI about the same and the former ODI skipper is planning a holiday with his family after the conclusion of the Test series.

The final test will be played from 11-15 January and the ODI series will begin from 19 January.
