RT-PCR at the airport, quarantine must be for people coming from ‘at-risk countries

Centre concerns over New Variant "omicron"


 Covid-19 led New Variant "Omicron" is creating a sense of worry among all the countries across the globe. The New Variant is rapidly speeding up. The cases were earlier noticed in South Africa after which yesterday Australia detected 2 cases of Omicron. 

As per the revised guidelines issued on Sunday after the emergence of the New Omicron variant of Covid -19 it said, " Covid-19 RT-PCR is mandatory in the airport at arrival, also quarantine is mandatory for the people arriving from"At- Risk" countries and will be required to wait for the results before leaving the airport or taking a connecting flight." The guideline also stated that" If tested negative they will follow home quarantine for 7 days. Re-test on the 8th day of arrival in India and if negative, further self-monitor of their health for next seven days."

 

According to the statement given by the Health Ministry, it said "The existing guidelines have been revised because of reporting of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, named Omicron (B.1.1.529), which has been now classified as a Variant of Concern by the World Health Organization (WHO)." It also mentions that the standard operating procedure( SOPs) shall be valid from December 1 till further orders. The revised guidelines will supersede earlier ones issued on and after November 11.

 

Many countries across the world have imposed a travel ban due to the new Variant. This is a variant of concern that is creating panic in travel and the risk of getting contaminated with the virus is also high
