Rise in Omicron Cases


In view of the increase in cases of Omicron, the Maharashtra state has imposed section 144 in Mumbai to avoid public gatherings in the state.



Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) has been issued for December 11 and 12 and it has also prohibited rallies, morchas, processions etc of persons and vehicles. The violators of the order will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said the information.



As per the information, Maharashtra on Friday reported seven new cases of Omicron which also includes a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler.  The information stated that three were reported in Mumbai, four from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Three men, aged 48, 25, and 37 had returned from Tanzania, the UK, and South Africa, respectively, while four other patients are the contacts of Nigerian women, who had been infected with the new variant on December 6.



With the arrival of upcoming festivals and the New Year, the public gathering will also rush in public spaces, shopping malls, and markets. With the precautions and safety for people, section 144 has been imposed to curb the spread of omicron.



According to the statement given by the health department it mentioned, Maharashtra has so far reported a total of 17 Omicron cases.
