Section 144 imposed in Mumbai till January 7

On Thursday, the Mumbai police imposed section 144 in the city till January 7. Reason behind it is an incessant rise in the omicron cases. 



During the Covid pandemic Maharashtra was amongst the worst hit state with deadly virus and was well known as hot bed. Similarly, the scenario for omicron is showing the same speed in the state. Mumbai is already under several restrictions, curbs are being implemented to curb the public from getting contaminated with the new variant.



According to the statement given in an order," the order shall come into force, in the areas under the control of commissioners of police, greater Mumbai from 00:00 Hrs. of 30th December 2021 and will remain informed till 24:00 Hrs. of 7th January 2022, unless withdrawn earlier." Further it said, “Any person contravening this shall be punishable under section 188 of Indian penal code (IPC) 1860 in addition to the penal provision under the epidemic Diseases act 1897 and National disaster management Act 2005 and other legal provisions as applicable." Said the order.



On Wednesday, the Maharashtra state witnessed 1,728 new cases of Covid-19.The state Health minister, Rajesh Tope has also expressed his concern over the rising cases of the Omicron and called it 'Alarming' .
