Six Pakistani cricketers test COVID-19 positive in New Zealand


The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Thursday announced that six members of the Pakistan cricket team while in isolation have tested positive of the novel coronavirus. All the six members have now been moved for a quarantine period and the team’s freedom to train during the isolation has been called off.

 A Press release by the NZC clearly stated that “Two of these six results have been deemed ‘historical’ four of them have been confirmed as new”. The New Zealand Health also revealed “several team members have been seen on CCTV at the facility breaching isolation rules, despite clear, consistent and detailed communication of expected behavior”.

Since the beginning of the pandemic the country of New Zealand has administered very well to wipe out the community transmission of the virus with just 1,684 cases of coronavirus.

Pakistan’s opener Fakhar Zaman was ruled out at the 11th hour with a consistent fever even before the Pakistani cricket team arrived at the Kiwi soil, New Zealand.

The tour has three T20 International matches and two test matches to be played amongst the two teams. The matches were to begin from December 18 opening with T20 in Auckland, New Zealand followed by a two test series between December 26 and January 7.

New Zealand is also hosting the West Indies cricket team for three T20 International and two test matches that begins on November 27 and will continue till December 15. The official tour of the Pakistan A and New Zealand A teams officially starts on December 10 which is a four day practice game.
