Social worker Vilas Chaphekar passes away

He was a man in bringing change for a better living in the lives of children of the sex workers, tribals, women, and other lower backward people.


Social worker Vilas Chaphekar died in Pune in the early hours, Saturday. He was under treatment and hospitalized at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital for the last few days. The last ritual was performed on July 25 (Sunday).

He was a man in bringing change for a better living in the lives of children of the sex workers, tribals, women, and other lower backward people. Mr. Vilas Chaphekar worked for the upifting of the downtrodden.

He was born in Mumbai then did his graduation from Mumbai University where he also won the gold medal. In 1982, Janiv organization was formed by him, later forming Vanchit Vikas organization. Seeing his work, Vanchit Vikas and Janiv, Chaphekar came together in the formation of Neehar, Chandikadevi Adivasi Girls Hostel, Sabala Mahila Kendra at Latur, Manavnirman, a project at Gosavi Vasti, Janiv Yuva, and many more organizations.

In addition, Mr. Chaphekar also worked as a teacher, professor, journalist, printing press operator in creating awareness in the society for over 16 years. He also wrote his books like ‘Panchayat Raj Va Swayamsevi Sanstha’, ‘Rachanatmak Disha’, ‘6 December Che Mul’, ‘Neehar’ which helps in providing the development in the society.
