Sourav Ganguly tests positive for Covid-19

Ganguly was admitted to a city hospital after his RT-PCR test returned positive

BCCI president and former Indian team captain Sourav Ganguly has been admitted to a city hospital in Kolkata after testing positive for Covid-19, the cricket board sources said on Tuesday. The 49-year-old is double vaccinated and has been travelling extensively.

Sourav Ganguly was admitted to the hospital on Monday night after his test results came out positive. His blood samples will be sent genome sequencing to ascertain if he has contracted the Omicron variant or not.

“He was taken to Woodlands Nursing Home last night. He has been given medications and is currently stable,” a BCCI source, who is keeping track of Ganguly’s health, told PTI.

Ganguly’s elder brother Snehasish Ganguly had also tested Covid-19 positive earlier this year. This is the third time that Ganguly has been hospitalised this year after January when he was admitted twice after complaining of chest discomfort. Ganguly had suffered a heart attack while exercising at his Kolkata home and underwent a right coronary angioplasty.

20 days later, he had similar chest pain, leading to the second round of angioplasty on January 28. During the process, two stents were placed in two arteries.

Meanwhile, the shoot of his show Dadagiri Unlimited Season 9 has been stalled for the time being. The cast and crew and contestants of Dadagiri will undergo the necessary tests following the Covid protocols. And, the set will also have to be sanitised.

Sourav Ganguly had attended the premiere of Bangla superstar and TMC MP Dev's latest film Tonic on December 24 and was seen with celebrities like Nusrat, Yash, Babul Supriyo and TMC MLA Madan Mitra, among others. All those who came in contact with the Ganguly recently, have been informed about him being infected by the virus.
