South African strain coronavirus patient found in Delhi

The first patient of a new strain of South African Corona virus has been found in Delhi. The patient is currently admitted in the special corona ward of Lok Nayak Hospital. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of the hospital said that the patient is from Kerala.


There has been a steady increase in cases of coronavirus infection across the country, including Delhi-NCR. During the last 24 hours, more than 28000 coronas have been reported across the country and 188 people have died. Meanwhile, a South African strain of Corona found in a patient resident in Kerala has been found. According to the information received, the first patient of the new strain of South African Corona virus has been found in Delhi. The patient is currently admitted in the special corona ward of Lok Nayak Hospital. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of the hospital said that the patient is from Kerala. The 35-year-old patient returned from South Africa on Wednesday.

The sample was sent to a lab at the National Center for Disease Control, Delhi for genome sequencing, after it was found to be positive in the Corona investigation. South African strain was confirmed in the patient when the report came in late Monday evening. The patient has mild symptoms and is being treated according to the guidelines. Kumar said that after keeping the patient in isolation for 15 days, the sample will be sent again. If the report comes negative then he will be discharged from the hospital. The patient has been in isolation since Wednesday.
