Special flight to evacuate Indians from Afghanistan, Govt urges to leave

As per the Government data, around 1,500 Indians are currently staying in Afghanistan.


The Indian Government has begun the process of evacuating Indians and its staff from its consulate in Afghanistan's Mazar-e-Sharif because of the rapidly escalating violence by the Taliban around the city of Balkh province. 

On Tuesday, a special flight from Mazar- e- Sharif to New Delhi was sent to evacuate Indians. According to ANI, a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force will evacuate the staff as well as the Indian citizens from the fourth-largest city of Afghanistan.

According to the tweet, the Indian consulate in Mazar-e -Sharif said," A special flight leaving from Mazar -e -sharif to New Delhi. Any Indian nationals in and around Mazar -e-Sharif are requested to leave for India in the special flight scheduled to depart late today evening."

It also said that those who want to leave by the special flight will have to provide the details with their full name, passport number to the consulate immediately. Another tweet read that Indian citizens desiring to leave by special flight should immediately convey their full name, passport number, date of expiry by WhatsApp at the following numbers 0785891303, 0785891301.

Meanwhile, last month, India pulled around 50 Indian diplomats and security officials posted in its consulate in Kandahar amid the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan with the Taliban gaining control over new areas.

As per the Government data, around 1,500 Indians are currently staying in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs said in the Lok Sabha that India remained vigilant and is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of Indians in the conflict-ridden country. Earlier, Indian photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui was killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city.
