Sputnik V Covid vaccine's approval to be discussed today

The vaccine is manufactured by Dr Reddy's in India which is effective upto 91.6 percent.


The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drug Standards Control Organisation will discuss today the use of Russian Covid vaccine Sputnik V in India, reported NDTV. The vaccine is manufactured by Dr Reddy's in India which is effective upto 91.6 percent. Sputnik V is most effective after Moderna and Pfizer shots.

The Committee will meet today to discuss Dr Reddy’s application seeking emergency use approval for Sputnik V vaccine. The Committee's last meeting was held on April 1 in which it had asked Dr Reddy's to submit data on all immunogenicity parameters of the shot.

Reportedly, the Committee had also asked for data of all the serious adverse events as well as comparative analysis of phase III immunogenicity data generated on the Indian and Russian studies at various times. Phase III clinical trials are going on in India, the UAE, Venezuela and Belarus.

Dr Reddy's had applied for emergency use of the Covid vaccine on February 19. Sputnik V can be stored at 2 to 8 degrees in dry form and the vaccine costs less than $10 for each shot in international markets. Sputnik-V trials are going on in India for around 1,600 people between 18 and 99 years of age.
