‘Stop Adani’ Protestors Interrupt India-Australia ODI.

Two protestors trespass India –Australia match at Sydney.

The first ODI was played between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday, November 27. Within the first hour of the match two spectators ran onto the play field protesting against a vexed coal project by the Adani group.

The protesters at first were allowed to stand in the middle of the ground for a while and were then escorted by the security officials from the ground. Not just that a set of almost 50 people had also assembled to protest outside the stadium. Indian Cricketer Navdeep Saini was going to start his over when one of the two protesters approximately reached the pitch. The T-shirt that they wore read “#StopAdani” on the front side and on the back it said “StopCoal, #StopAdani, Take Action”.

The protestors held a placard above his head just before the start of the seventh over, against a loan to the mining company Adani in Queensland for a controversial project.

The Stop Adani Group along with Carmichael Coal mine for years have been determined to seal the project due to the negative impacts it has on the environment and causing climate changes.

In September earlier this year the Adani coal mine gained victory over the environmental activists and announced that the project would offer employment to 1,500 people in Queensland. The Stop Adani Group on Friday issued a press release urging the State bank of India (SBI) to disapprove the loan to Adani of $1 billion Australian dollars.
