The Accused Dharmendra Kumar told police that she was constantly blackmailing him to extort money. Also preventing him from visiting his native place in the Bhojpur district of Bihar, the officer said.

He mentioned that he was annoyed and fed-up with her blackmailing. So, he took a day off from his duty and planned to kill her.

According to Mr Subhash, Singh took Varsha to his residence in the Telco area and crushed Varsha's head against a wall before he strangulated her to death, following a fight.

"He threw Varsha's belongings into the Subarnarekha river and her mobile phone in a bush in the Bistupur area, which the police has recovered. He then left for his native village in Bihar."

The sanitisation workers spotted the dead body on November 18 from the pond.

The victim's belongings were identified by her family.
