Tamil Nadu Announces Lockdown This Sunday

Complete lockdown on Jan 23!


Witnessing a surge in the cases of Covid-19. Tamil Nadu Government has imposed a complete lockdown in the state on January 23(Sunday).

 

The state reported an incessant rise in the coronavirus case which led to taking the lockdown decision. The lockdown will begin at 10 pm on Saturday (today) and will continue till 5 am on Monday (January 24).


According to an official release, "All the essential services that were allowed on January 16 would be allowed. All those services and activities that were restricted on that day would be restricted (on January 23).


The Covid cases across the country are fluctuating. Few states are reopening schools, colleges, and other institutions. Also, few are easing restrictions that led to Covid and few are re-imposing guidelines and restrictions due to surge in Covid cases. 


According to the Tamil Nadu chief minister Stalin, this announcement was made on Friday after the state reported 28,561 cases. 


As per the information, autos and taxis will ply for airport, railway station and house stops. Other operational services such as ATMs, milk shops, hospital-related medicals, petrol pumps, and other essential services will work. Restaurants will be available only for take away services from 7 am to 10 pm.


On Thursday, Tamil Nadu reported 28,561 new cases of Covid-19 and 39 deaths related to the virus in the last 24 hours. Around 1,79,205 are active cases of COVID in the state. Meanwhile, Chennai logged 7,520 cases and Coimbatore reported 3,390 cases in the state.
