Tamil Nadu seeks 1 crore vaccine doses from Centre for mega vaccination drive

Ma Subramanian said that the state is vaccinating about 5 lakh doses per day for the last seven days.


Covid-19 cases are continuing to rise in the country, whereas schools and colleges have returned to a new normal and the vaccination drive is also speeding up. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has sought 1 crore vaccine doses from the Centre for its mega vaccination drive.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has requested Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya for 1 crore additional Covid-19 vaccine doses along with an equal number of 0.5ml AD syringes for the mega vaccination drive in the state on September 12. Adding more, Ma Subramanian said that the state is vaccinating about 5 lakh doses per day for the last seven days, which makes the supply only adequate for three to four days. He also claimed that it was difficult to plan for the remaining eligible population. He talked about the mega Covid-19 vaccine programme and said, the camp will be conducted weekly starting from September 12 to cover the remaining 3.44 crore people who are above 18 years of age.

According to the department of health, on Monday, Tamil Nadu reported 1,556 new Covid-19 cases and 18 fatalities which pushed the overall tally to 26,24,234 and death toll to 35,036. Whereas a total of 1,564 people got discharged and 1,55,609 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
