New Delhi: Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a set of guidelines on buying books and uniforms for private schools. The (DoE) has asked the schools to put up details of at least five vendors from where parents can buy the uniform and books. However, it has also clarified that parents will be free to buy them from any other shop, too, as per their convenience.

The circular states, the school shall display the list of books/writing materials (class-wise) to be introduced in the coming session in advance on the school website and also at a conspicuous place so as to aware the parents.

Along with this, the school will also display the names, address and telephone numbers of at least five vendors/shops in close proximity from where the books/writing materials will be easily available for the students to purchase, it added.

"The school is not allowed to change the color, design or any other specification of uniform one prescribed, at least for the next three years," DoE stated.

The issued circular clarified while giving parents freedom on the matter, "The school will not force any parents/students to purchase course, uniform from any selected vendor." Last week, education minister Atishi threatened action against schools that would force parents to buy books, uniforms from a particular vendor.

DoE said the circular had been issued as despite reminders, schools were not following the order. "In view of the above, all district deputy education officers are again directed to ensure that the above instructions are strictly complied with and an action-taken report shall be submitted to the private school branch of DoE without any fail," the circular stated.
