The first batch of Covid-19 vaccine from India reach Afghanistan

Afghanistan received a large consignment of Covid-19 vaccines from India on Sunday. The India-made vaccine is the first to reach Afghanistan as the Country battles the Pandemic. Ashraf Ghani also throws light on the strategy in which they are going to vaccinate.


India on Sunday handed over five lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Afghan officials as a gift to the people of war-affected Afghanistan. It was described by Afghanistan as a "strong signal of India's generosity and sincere cooperation". The Indian Embassy in Kabul tweeted, "The first batch of Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Afghanistan. A consignment of five lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine gifted by the people of Afghanistan to India arrived in Kabul. "Raghuram S. Charge Affairs" of India in Kabul. Handed over consignment of vaccines to caretaker Public Health Minister Wahid Majrooh.

Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar tweeted, "My friend Dr. S. Jaishankar for my five lakh doses of 'Made in India' vaccine for use against Covid-19 spread in Afghanistan, to the government and people of India. Deepest gratitude. Generosity indeed, A clear sign of commitment and strong partnership. "The Afghan Foreign Ministry expressed its gratitude for the support and supply of the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines (Covishield) by" Afghanistan's liberal supporter and strategic partner India "in a brief statement. "The donation of five lakh doses of the vaccine to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the current difficult circumstances in Afghanistan is a strong indication of the Indian government's generous and sincere cooperation to the Government of Afghanistan and its people," it said in the statement.

As an extension of cooperation between the two countries, Covid-19 relief assistance was announced by India during a telephone conversation between Jaishankar and Atmar on 8 January. A tweet from the Presidential Palace said that President Ashraf Ghani has thanked India for its timely assistance. He said that in the first phase, vaccine safety and defense forces, Health workers,and other groups at the forefront of the fight against the virus will be given. Majrooh said that in the second phase vaccines will be given to senior citizens and patients with chronic diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure,and diabetes. In the second phase, senior citizens and people suffering from other diseases will be immunized against the coronavirus. So far, 55,359 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Afghanistan and 2,413 people have died.
